Dryden Farms

Did anyone ever see a healthy Christmas dinner? By the time, we have added pigs and blankets, sumptuous stuffings, potatoes roasted in goose fat, and lashings of gravy, our Christmas dinner becomes a rich luxurious heaven, as opposed to a healthy meal! But… did you know eating turkey can benefit your overall health and well-being and is a powerhouse of essential nutrients?
As a child, I grew up dreading having turkey (Sorry Mum!) and had no interest in its nutritional value! I would hope for extra sauce or gravy to moisten the dried up tasteless white meat, so what a treat it was when I was introduced to the KellyBronze turkey. The KellyBronze turkey is just delightful. Not only do I now have the health benefits of eating turkey, but I enjoy it because it tastes great!

Turkey is a lean meat and packs a powerful nutritional punch: It is rich in protein and contains minimal fat and cholesterol when compared to other meats such as beef, pork, and chicken. Additionally, turkey is considered a complete protein, because it delivers nine of the essential amino acids our body needs for normal functioning, growth and repair. This makes it a great choice for individuals looking for healthier alternatives, or people to reduce their fat intake.

Turkey has also been identified as a superfood due to its health benefits. Turkey is rich in selenium, zinc, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and iron, making it a useful addition to support heart health, thyroid function, immunity, and bone health. Turkey is also a valuable contributor of vitamins B3, B6 and B12, which are all vital for energy production, brain function and for the formation of red blood cells.

It should however, be noted that not all turkeys are equal, and some turkeys are sadly highly processed, being high in salt and having additives and flavour enhancers added. At Dryden Turkeys, we do not add anything at all, other than a box, cooking instructions and a thermometer! KellyBronze turkeys are bred to be wild and feeding them a natural diet and keeping them free range, naturally enhances their flavour, and ensures a healthy, nutritious lean meat.

Until next month…wishing you all the best,
